Autumn Gutter Maintenance Before the Rains Arrive
4 min read · 5 October 2025
Falling leaves make autumn the single most common time of year for blocked gutters, and a blockage left over winter can send water straight down an exterior wall instead of away from the property.
A proper clear-out covers the gutters themselves, the downpipes, and any ground-level drains they feed into — a company that only wipes out the visible gutter run is leaving half the job undone.
It's also worth having a maintenance contractor check for loose brackets or sagging sections while they're up there. Gutters under strain from trapped water and debris are far more likely to pull away in a winter storm.
Booking this before the first heavy autumn rain, rather than after, avoids the scramble that comes with emergency call-outs once water starts finding its way inside.
